MANAMA, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain's Court of Appeal on Monday upheld the death sentences against four people suspected of founding a "terrorist" group and killing two policemen.
Terror Crime Prosecution Chief Ahmed al-Hammadi said the defendants were found guilty of premeditated murder of policemen, illegal possession, handling and detonation of explosives, and carrying out "terrorist attacks," according to the Bahraini official news agency.
In 2017, the country's High Criminal Court passed the death verdicts and varied imprisonment terms against 20, revoked nine others' Bahraini nationalities and acquitted two.
Since 2011, Bahrain has been suffering from sporadic acts of violence mainly targeting policemen.
Manama blames the incidents on groups of its Shiite citizens and accuses Iran of fueling insecurity in the Gulf state by providing training and financial support for these groups.
