BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- China is strongly dissatisfied and resolutely opposed to Canada's insistence on advancing the extradition process of Chinese citizen Meng Wanzhou, and has lodged solemn representations, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Saturday.

China's position on the issue is clear and firm, said spokesperson Lu Kang.

He said that the United States and Canada abused their bilateral extradition treaties and arbitrarily used compulsory measures against a Chinese citizen, which had seriously violated the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens.

"This is a serious political event," Lu said.

"China once again urges the U.S. side to immediately withdraw its arrest warrant and extradition request targeting Ms. Meng Wanzhou, urges the Canadian side to immediately release Ms. Meng and let her back to China safely."
