SEOUL, March 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korean automakers saw their car sales fall both at home and abroad last month, industry data showed Monday.
The number of cars sold globally by five local automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong, shrank 1.2 percent over the year to 564,739 in February.
Domestic car sales shed 1.1 percent to 104,307 units, while auto export dipped 1.2 percent to 460,432 vehicles.
In the domestic market, the country's biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor saw its car sale grow 6.4 percent on demand for new models, but its affiliate Kia Motors recorded a 10.2 percent reduction in car sales.
Ssangyong's local auto sale increased 7.2 percent, but those from GM Korea and Renault Samsung slipped 5 percent and 4.7 percent each.
For the car export, only Kia saw a gain in outbound shipment with a 2.5 percent increase in export.
Hyundai's car export shed 0.9 percent on weak demand from European and Latin American markets.
