Defending champion Trnava into Slovak Fortuna Liga relegation playoffs

BRATISLAVA, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Trnava, the defending champion of Slovak Fortuna Liga, the country's top level soccer league with 12 teams, lost to Sered 3-1 on road in the 22nd and final round of the regular season on Saturday, finishing 8th in the standings, and had to face relegation playoffs.

Trnava took the lead in the 55th minute on Grendel's free kick. But Sered equalized the score in the 70th minute and rallied to win with the goal of Hucko in the 78th minute and an own goal by Conka in the 90th minute.

Slovan, the leader of Fortuna Liga, defeated Senica 2-1 and remained the only unbeaten team of the season, followed by Zilina which beat Podbrezova 2-0 and D. Streda which tamed Zlate Moravce 2-1.

The top three, together with fourth placer Ruzomberok, fifth placer Michalovce, and sixth Sered, will compete in the title-chasing playoffs.

The other six teams in the table, Nitra, Trnava, Trencin, Podbrezova, Senica and Zlate Moravce will compete in the relegation playoffs.
