JERUSALEM, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian on Tuesday after he attempted to stab soldiers, the army said.
The incident took place near a military post in Hebron, a flashpoint city south of Jerusalem.
A military spokesperson said in a statement that the soldiers noticed the suspect armed with a knife running towards them.
The soldiers confronted him, and he then ran towards a nearby building while still with the knife. The soldiers fired and killed the suspect and thwarted the attack, the spokesperson added.
No injuries to the soldiers were reported.
Hebron, one of the most tensed cities in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, is home to some 200,000 Palestinians and a few hundreds of Jewish settlers.
The settlements are located on lands which Israel seized during the 1967 Middle East war.
The last round of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians collapsed in 2014.
