BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese consumers associations received 8,487 tourist complaints last year, according to Beijing News.

About half of the complaints were about the inconsistencies between contracts and actual trips, as well as forced shopping, said the newspaper, citing the China Consumers Association.

Problems such as hotel information leakage also aroused public concern.

The situation in Beijing, however, has been improved thanks to tighter oversight. Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau said that the number of tourist complaints in Beijing totaled 2,527 last year, down 11.9 percent year on year.

Complaints involving online travel platforms and traditional travel agencies topped the list. Eighty-six complaints concerning the service quality of four or five-star hotels were accepted.
