Lebanon plans to expand Tripoli's Qlayaat airport

BEIRUT, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Toufic Dabbousi, head of Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Tripoli, highlighted Sunday Tripoli's plan of expanding its Qlayaat airport from three square meters to over 10 square meters, local media reported.

"This airport will be equipped with features that will turn it into a modern facility that can be compared to the most advanced airports in the world," Dabbousi was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

Dabbousi's remarks came during his meeting with Telecom Minister Mohamad Choucair, who is also head of Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Beirut in addition to other representatives of the different economic sectors in Lebanon.

Dabbousi emphasized also the importance of expanding Tripoli's economic zone which will be of great importance to oil and gas companies.

He noted that China is one of the countries that showed great interest in these projects.

"The Chinese ambassador in Lebanon considered these projects important in creating job opportunities while benefitting Lebanon and the whole region.

Meanwhile, Choucair emphasized the importance of relying on the Chinese expertise to implement these projects.
