China's Ge breaks women's 60m national indoor record

BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- China's promising sprinter Ge Manqi improved her 60-meter personal best twice on Tuesday to set a national indoor record of 7.10 seconds at the National Indoor Championships Finals in Hangzhou, China.

The in-form Ge dashed to 7.19s in the preliminary phase, trimming 0.07s off her life-time best set last Month. After just one hour she went on to improve it to 7.10s in the final to claim her convincing victory, breaking the national record of 7.17s set by her national teammate Wei Yongli in 2016.

It is already the fourth time for Ge to renew her 60m career best this season. Her winning mark is just 0.01s shy of the Asian indoor record set by Susanthika Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka back in 1999.
