Chinese company signs initial agreement to build monorail in Iraq's Najaf

BAGHDAD, March 19 (Xinhua) -- The investment commission of Najaf governorate signed on Tuesday an initial agreement with a Chinese company to build a monorail for the city.

An official statement said that the head of the commission Dhergam Keko signed the agreement with a Hong Kong-based company to build a monorail.

Last week, the company inked a memorandum of understanding with the investment commission of Najaf city after explaining the project details and the Chinese company's potentials and capabilities.

"The project will provide an accessible and fast transportation way to the people of the city as well as all tourists," Keko said.

He also called upon Chinese companies to invest in all sectors of Najaf.
