Macao's merchandise export up by 29.1 pct in February

MACAO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The total merchandise export of Macao in February 2019 amounted to 923 million patacas (about 114 million U.S. dollars), up by 29.1 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics department said on Friday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the value of re-exports increased by 37.9 percent to 848 million patacas (about 105 million dollars), with that of beauty, cosmetic and skin-care products, diamond and jewellery surging by 968.3 percent and 251.2 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, value of domestic exports dropped by 24.9 percent to 75 million patacas (about 9 million dollars), with that of pharmaceutical products and organic chemicals falling by 34.5 percent.

In the first two months in 2019, the total value of merchandise export increased by 26.2 percent year-on-year to 2.45 billion patacas (about 303 million dollars), of which value of re-exports grew by 31.8 percent to 2.24 billion patacas (about 277 million dollars), but that of domestic exports declined by 12.2 percent to 215 million patacas (about 27 million dollars).

Exports of non-textiles went up by 26.0 percent year-on-year to 2.32 billion patacas (about 287 million dollars). Exports of textiles and garments totaled 129 million patacas (about 16 million dollars), up by 29.9 percent.
