NEW DELHI, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese home appliance giant Haier held a groundbreaking ceremony of its second industrial park in India in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Located in the Greater Noida area of Uttar Pradesh, the industrial park will cover an area of 123 acres (about 500,000 square meters).

Once operational, it will be the country's biggest manufacturing unit of consumer durables and home appliances such as air-conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, water-heaters and television sets.

Haier's first industrial park in India was in Pune, an industrial city in the southwestern state of Maharashtra.

The first phase of the new manufacturing plant is expected to be operational by 2020, and will attract a total investment of 30 billion Indian Rupees (around 420 million U.S. dollars). It will generate around 14,000 jobs, company sources said.

"India is a big market for us and we would like to continue to invest here in manufacturing and simultaneously design technological innovations specifically for our Indian consumers," said Song Yujun, Haier Group's Vice President (Global Appliances) and South Asia Managing Director.

President of Haier Appliances (India) Eric Braganza said this would be the largest plant manufacturing consumer durables and home appliances in the country.

"As Haier marks the completion of 15 years of its operations in India, we're extremely proud of this milestone and continue to remain committed to deliver the best-in-class innovations to our customers," he added.
