YANGON, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Two passengers have been killed and seven others injured in a collision between a truck and a three-wheeled cycle in Kyaikhto town in southeastern Mon state, said the Home Ministry Monday.

A Toyota Wish truck, losing brake control, crashed into a three-wheeled cycle carrying eight passengers on Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Mayangon village on Sunday morning.

The two passengers, who died on the spot, are women.

The injured have been brought to nearby Theinzayat hospital for treatment.

The driver, who ran away after the accident, was charged by local police with reckless driving and is under investigation.

According to the figures from the Myanmar Traffic Police Force, a total of 5,184 people were killed and 26,741 injured in 17,451 traffic accidents in Myanmar in 2018.

Reckless driving, over-speeding, defective vehicles and inclement weather were blamed for these traffic accidents.
