PARIS, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Saint-Etienne broke into top four in Ligue 1 after overcoming Nimes 2-1 at home on Monday.

Nimes opened the scoring as early as two minutes into the match, when Denis Bouanga teed up Antonin Bobichon's header.

Remy Cabella found an equalizer for Saint-Etienne, which were without their top scorer Wahbi Khazri, in the 24th minute.

Robert Beric cleverly diverted Valentin Vada's cross into the net with 10 minutes from time. Despite being ruled offside by the linesman at the start, the goal was confirmed by the match referee following VAR consultation.

Saint-Etienne leapfrog Marseille at the fourth place and boost their hope of clinching next season's European competition ticket. The latter were held to a 2-2 draw by Angers on Saturday.

Paris Saint-Germain, victorious at Toulouse 1-0 on Sunday, set up a 20-point cushion from second-placed Lille. Enditem
