DHAKA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Millions of Bangladeshis, living and working abroad, sent home nearly 12 billion U.S. dollars in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year, a central bank official said Tuesday.

Quoting the provisional Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, the official said Bangladesh received 11.87 billion U.S. dollars in remittances during the July-March period of the fiscal 2018-19 (July 2018-June 2019), which is 10.28 percent higher over the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

The remittances from some 10 million Bangladeshis in March were 1.45 billion U.S. dollars, up about 12 percent year-on-year, said the official who declined to be named.

Remittances, which account for around 12 percent of the country's GDP, mainly come from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.
