KHARTOUM, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese police on Tuesday instructed all police forces "not to confront citizens or peaceful gatherings" across the country.
The police forces were also told to perform their duties in protecting lives and properties, preventing crimes, and managing traffic and public safety, the police said in a statement.
The Sudanese police further warned the citizens against sabotaging acts, vowing readiness to launch operations against crimes.
The Sudanese capital on Saturday and Sunday saw huge protests that ended in open sit-in in front of the Sudanese army headquarters. Six protesters were reportedly killed.
Since Dec. 19 last year, Sudan has been witnessing popular protests over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
