BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of recent science and technology news briefs.

CAMBRIAN FOSSILS

A newly-discovered trove in central China containing soft-bodied fossils that date back 518 million years sheds new light on the diversity of early animal life during the Cambrian period.

Among the 4,351 specimens so far analyzed from the type locality, 109 categories have been recognized and 53 percent of them are new.

INFRARED STEALTH MATERIAL

Chinese scientists have found a material that can hide a hot object from heat-sensing infrared cameras. They fabricated an aerogel film with good thermal insulation performance and enhanced it by coating its fibers with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and a protective waterproof layer.

SODIUM-ION BATTERY

A sodium-ion battery power storage plant has been put into operation in east China's Jiangsu Province. With a storage capacity of 100 KWh, it works like a battery charger, storing power during low consumption hours and delivering electricity during peak hours.

FIREFIGHTING DRONE

A firefighting drone Predator-100 and supporting vehicle were unveiled at the 13th China Henan International Investment and Trade Fair. The drone has a max load of 100 kg and four-hour endurance, and the supporting vehicle can store 2,000 liters of high-efficient liquid fire extinguishing chemicals.

ROCKET-CARRYING SHIPS

China's two rocket-carrying ships have recently completed their first medium maintenance after trail voyages, preparing for future missions.

LUNAR ROVER

China's lunar rover Yutu-2 has driven 170.92 meters on the far side of the moon to conduct scientific exploration on the virgin territory.
