Tokyo stocks close mixed as firm yen weighs

TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed in choppy trade Thursday, as a firm yen weighed on exporter issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 23.81 points, or 0.11 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,711.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.14 points, or 0.07 percent, lower at 1,606,52.

The turnover came to 2,054.5 billion yen (18.49 billion U.S. dollars).
