JOHANNESBURG, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Famed Egyptian club Al Ahly failed to reverse the unexpected five-goal deficit last weekend in the first leg of CAF Champions League quarterfinal. Mamelodi Sundowns reached semifinal with a 5-1 overall victory.

In the semifinal, the South African side will play against Wydad Casablanca from Morocco and defending champions Esperance of Tunisia will meet TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sundowns have never tasted a victory against Al Ahly with the two teams having clashed in the 2001 final and the 2007 second round tie. It was the biggest defeat suffered by the Red Devils, who are the most decorated club in the history of the tournament with a record eight titles, since the 4-0 CAF Cup defeat by Enugu Rangers in Nigeria 16 years ago.

Meanwhile, TP Mazembe, the last of whose five Champions League titles came in 2015, beat Simba SC of Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate in Lubumbashi after being held 0-0 in Tanzania. Wydad and Esperance made it to the last four by defeating Horoya AC of Guinea 5-0 and CS Constantine of Algeria 6-3 respectively.
