SOFIA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian law enforcement authorities have seized 288.38 kg of heroin at the country's Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint near the border with Turkey, the prosecutor's office said in a statement on Thursday.
The drug, split into 144 packets, was found on Sunday after a truck carrying a painting machine with equipment from Iran to Bulgaria went through an X-ray examination, the statement said.
Authorities estimated that the value of the heroin on the black market would exceed 10.25 million U.S. dollars.
The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old Iranian citizen, was arrested at the scene. Later on, the authorities found and arrested the recipient of the illegal shipment, a 40-year-old Turkish citizen, the statement said.
The investigation is ongoing. Enditem
