BERLIN, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Borussia Dortmund defeated Freiburg 4-0 on Sunday to close the gap to leaders Bayern Munich to one point after the 30th round of Bundesliga matches.

Frontrunners Bayern had stretched their advantage to four points after Saturday's 1-0 win over Werder Bremen, but Dortmund were able to reduce their deficit with goals from Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus, Mario Gotze and Paco Alcacer.

The visitors dominated from kick-off and opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Reus's square pass found Sancho, who scored from a central position.

However, even though Dortmund took the lead and controlled possession, they were unable to extend their lead against a resilient Freiburg, who came close to leveling the scores through Gian-Luca Waldschmidt and Vincenzo Grifo.

After the restart, Dortmund doubled their lead staged when Raphael Guerreiro's through-ball allowed Reus to clinically slot home into the far corner in the 54th minute.

Dortmund's second goal took the wind out of Freiburg's sails as Waldschmidt pulled wide from a promising position, before Gotze poked home after good build-up play from Reus with 79 minutes played.

Lucien Favre's men were still not done with the scoring as Alcacer converted a penalty to round off the 4-0 win.

The result sees Dortmund stay second, while Freiburg remain in 13th position.

"We were very efficient. It is a tough result for Freiburg. We played well and defended well but still Freiburg pushed and had their opportunities. If they had made the score 1-1, everything could have been different," Dortmund's head coach Lucien Favre said.

Elsewhere, Hertha Berlin and Hannover shared the spoils following a goalless draw.

The draw ended Hannover's eight-game winless streak, but the Reds remain rooted to the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Hertha Berlin recorded their ninth draw of the season to stay 11th.

Wolfsburg encounter in-form Eintracht Frankfurt to conclude the 2018-19 Bundesliga's 30th round of matches on Monday evening.
