BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday held a conference here to highlight the contribution of "model workers" and groups ahead of the International Labor Day, which falls on May 1.

A total of 695 individuals and more than 800 groups were honored at the event.

Wang Dongming, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, addressed the conference.

Wang called on all Chinese workers to "be firm in following the Communist Party of China and work hard to realize the Chinese dream."

He also asked them to practice core socialist values and to improve themselves.
