Asian Road Cycling Championship kicks off in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The 39th Asian Road Cycling Championship started on Tuesday in Uzbekistan as the strongest athletes and teams fight for the title of the best cyclists on the continent, as well as for qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

More than 500 athletes from 40 Asian countries and regions are taking part in the most prestigious cycling competition of the continent to be held in Uzbekistan, according to the joint statement of the Asian Cycling Confederation and Uzbekistan's Cycling Federation.

Cyclists will compete for the 57 sets of medals, as well as for tickets to take part in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Japan.

The first competition started on Tuesday morning in the Bostanlyk district, near the capital Tashkent.
