BUDAPEST, April 24 (Xinhua) -- French paddler Simon Gauzy said here Wednesday that his latest victory over world No. 2 Xu Xin from China at the ITTF World Championships was "no doubt the best in career".

Gauzy beat the Chinese attack-minded penholder 11-8, 6-11, 11-13, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9 in the men's singles round of 32.

As there is no other Chinese player in bottom half, Xu's early exit means that one finalist is set to come from other associations than the table tennis powerhouse.

The 34th-ranked Frenchman celebrated his victory by throwing his racket and roaring in front of frenetic crowds.

"To be honest, I cannot describe what I feel right now," admiited Gauzy.

"To beat one of the best Chinese at the World Championships is just where you want to beat them. I just want to enjoy it tonight, as it doesn't happen so often to beat such a good player," he added.

When asked if the victory was seen as "the best in career", Gauzy replied, "no doubt about it."

"The key was to avoid his forehand, as his forehand is just the best in the world, very spinning and powerful. My receive was great. I just tried to use different receives," he explained.

"I respect him too much. I love to watch him play. I love his touch, feeling, forehand and style. Today I'm just happy to have beaten him.

Gauzy was reluctant to think too much about his upcoming journey at the World Championships.

"To be honest, nothing," he smiled.

"Last year was tough for me. I had injury. I was No. 8 in the world, and then went back to No. 30. It was just a tough time.

"I know that I was not regular as my preferred months last year. If I can keep this level, I can go far.

"But anything can happen. Tomorrow I will probably be the favorite, or probably end it up," Gauzy pointed out.
