Ma/Wang claim men's doubles gold at table tennis worlds (updated)

BUDAPEST, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese duo Ma Long and Wang Chuqin won the men's doubles gold medal, beating Romania's Ovidiu Ionescu and Spain's Alvaro Robles 4-1 at the World Table Tennis Championships here on Saturday.

The Chinese had met some trouble in the second set before they had the game under control and won 11-3, 8-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-5.

This is China's third gold in the Budapest championships since Liu Shiwen and Xu Xin had won the mixed doubles event and China has clean-swept the women's singles semifinal berths.

"We have fully prepared for a tough game since our rivals are very strong," said Ma. "My parnter has been playing very well since the quarterfinal and he has taken some of pressure off me."

Ma Long will battle against compatriot Liang Jingkun for a spot in the men's singles final late in the day.

The other semifinal pits South Korean An Jaehyun against Sweden's Mattias Falck. Enditem
