BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key education news from the past week:

-- Videos, livestreaming become new learning tools

Learning from various kinds of online videos and livestreaming platforms have become a rising popular choice among Chinese young people.

Over 18.27 million people, twice the number of participants in the 2018 college entrance examination, have learned by watching videos or livestreaming on Bilibili.com, China's leading online video platform, since the start of 2019.

-- Reform plans for college entrance exam in more provinces

Eight provincial-level regions announced plans for comprehensive reform of the college entrance exam, marking the third batch of pilot regions in China to launch the reform.

The change will cover the first graders who entered high schools in fall 2018 and later in Hebei, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong and Chongqing.

The reform allows the students to have more choices -- up to 12 combinations of subjects instead of the current two choices between arts and science -- for their exams in accordance with their hobbies, interests and specialties.

-- Chinese provinces hold civil service exams

A total of 22 provinces in China have held their provincial-level civil service exams on a separate basis, planning to recruit about 80,000 public servants in total.

Compared with 2018, several provinces have cut the number of vacancies. Fujian Province, for instance, plans to recruit 2,471 civil servants this year, 1,000 fewer than in last year. Enditem
