RAMALLAH, April 27 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian young man succumbed on Saturday to his critical wounds caused by Israeli soldiers' gunfire at an Israeli army roadblock near the northern West Bank city of Nablus last week, medics said.

The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry said in a statement that it was informed by the Palestinian liaison office with the Israeli side that Omar Younis died of his wounds.

Younis was critically injured last Saturday at an Israeli army roadblock near Nablus. The Israeli army said that the soldiers opened fire at him after he tried to carry out a stabbing attack by knife.

He was taken to an Israeli hospital for medical treatment, according to Israeli and Palestinian media sources.

No injuries were reported among the soldiers at the roadblock. Younis' body is still held by the Israeli side, according to the statement.
