RIO DE JANEIRO, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou Evergrande loanee Ricardo Goulart will be sidelined for at least two months after suffering a knee injury while playing for Palmeiras, the Brazilian club's medical staff said on Monday.
Goulart was forced off the pitch in the first half of Palmeiras' 4-0 home win over newly promoted Fortaleza in the opening round of the Brazilian Serie A season on Sunday.
Scans revealed the 27-year-old requires arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus of his right knee. He underwent keyhole surgery on the same knee late last year for an unrelated cartilage injury.
Goulart's loan spell with Palmeiras - the reigning Brazilian Serie A champions - is due to expire in December.
Capped once for Brazil's national team, Goulart is the only two-time winner of the Chinese Super League's player of the year award, having taken the accolade in 2015 and 2016.
