BEIJING, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of recent science and technology news of China.

PECULIAR STAR IN MILKY WAY

A team of Chinese and Japanese astronomers found that a special star within the Galactic halo was originated from a dwarf galaxy, which was disrupted and "swallowed up" by the Milky Way.

The research team led by Zhao Gang, an astronomer from the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, discovered a chemically peculiar star which has an unusually low amount of magnesium, but contains an excessive amount of heavy elements, such as europium, gold and uranium.

LAUNCH OF TWO SATELLITES

China successfully sent two Tianhui II-01 satellites into orbit at 6:52 a.m., Beijing Time, Tuesday from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province.

The satellites will be used for scientific experiments, land resource survey, geographic survey and mapping.

USING CAFFEINE TO IMPROVE SOLAR CELL EFFICIENCY

A research shows that coffee is an amazing material that enhances performance and stability of solar cells, according to a report of China Science Daily.

Scientists from the United States and China working on the study found that caffeine, an active material in coffee, could be an alkaloid compound to interact with the precursors of perovskite materials to improve solar cell efficiency and thermal stability. Enditem
