Serious flooding likely to hit Yangtze River

WUHAN, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is likely to see relatively serious flooding while its upstream might see drought to a certain extent this year, the flood control and drought relief headquarters of the Yangtze said.

Based on medium- and long-term hydrometeorological analysis, an uneven distribution of precipitation is expected in regions along the Yangtze, posing serious challenges to flood control and drought relief work, the headquarters said.

The forecast is shared by the hydrographic office under the water resources ministry, which warned against possible serious flooding and waterlogging.
