BAGHDAD, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim on Wednesday held a phone call with Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit to discuss efforts to solve crises of some Arab countries.

A statement by Iraqi Foreign Ministry said al-Hakim "affirmed Iraq's readiness to exert efforts to bring closer the views of the conflicting parties and to provide solutions under the sponsorship of the AL."

Meanwhile, al-Hakim made another phone call with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir and "discussed means to strengthen bilateral relations to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples," a separate ministry statement said.

The two ministers also discussed "regional and international issues and the importance of bilateral cooperation," the statement added.

The two phone calls came as part of Iraq's efforts to restore its Arab and regional role, especially after its territorial victory against the extremist Islamic State militants.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi repeatedly confirmed his government's vision to establish partnership, cooperation and exchange of interests with all Arab countries as well as the neighboring countries in order to promote opportunities of stability and prosperity in the region.
