CAPE TOWN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South Africa's major media outlets on Thursday.

-- Deputy President David Mabuza said on Wednesday that the African National Congress believes the national minimum wage (NMW) is not a living wage but a significant milestone toward it.

In January, the NMW came into effect after it was signed into law in 2018, making it the country's first ever minimum wage. (News24)

-- South African Communist Party (SACP) general secretary Blade Nzimande on Wednesday called on workers to give the African National Congress (ANC) a decisive victory in May 8 elections but warned President Cyril Ramaphosa that the vote is not a blank cheque.
