Vietnam's enterprise establishment increases 4.9 pct in 4 months

HANOI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 43,305 enterprises with total registered capital of 542.4 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 23.6 billion U.S. dollars) were set up in Vietnam in the first four months of this year, up 4.9 percent in quantity and up 31.7 percent in capital over the same period last year.

Of the new firms, 37.2 percent were involved in wholesales and retails, 13.3 percent in construction, 12.7 percent in manufacturing and processing industries, and 8.4 percent in science, technology and consulting services, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Thursday.

Between January and April, 17,463 firms, which had temporarily ceased operations due to different difficulties, resumed their activities, posting a year-on-year surge of 52.6 percent. Meanwhile, another 5,305 enterprises were dissolved, up 12.9 percent.

Last year, Vietnam saw 131,275 enterprises established with total registered capital of over 1,478 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 64.3 billion U.S. dollars), up 3.5 percent in quantity and up 14.1 percent in capital against 2017.
