BEIRUT, May 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard launched on Monday a program worth 90 million U.S. dollars for education in Lebanon, local media reported.

"My Book 2" program aims to teach Lebanese students to read in different languages and to provide schools with more resources.

"This program, in its first version, generated brilliant results by witnessing a 79-percent improvement in reading levels among 10,000 students," Richard was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

The remarks came during a ceremony held in cooperation with the Lebanese Education Ministry on the occasion of launching the program.

Richard said that this program has also trained over 1,000 teachers to improve their teaching skills by using technology in classes.

She added that the U.S. has allocated 400 million dollars to support the education of the new generations of students in Lebanon.

Lebanese Education Minister Akram Chehayeb praised the U.S. government for its new donation to support "My Book 2" and its keenness to secure a great level of education for the Lebanese youths.
