BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with British Cabinet Secretary Mark Sedwill here on Thursday.

Yang, also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, expressed his hope that the two countries will work together to implement the consensus reached by their leaders, respect each other's core interests, and facilitate cooperation in various fields to achieve steady development in the "golden era" of bilateral relations.

Sedwill, who is also the national security advisor to the British prime minister, said Britain attaches great importance to developing relations with China, supports the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to deepen cooperation with China to promote the "golden era" relationship.
