JERUSALEM, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Air Force aircraft flew all over the country on Thursday, showing the power and capabilities of the army on the occasion of the 71st Independence Day.

Along the coastline of Tel Aviv, tens of thousands of Israelis watched the show which included the new F-35 combat aircraft, the most advanced fighter in Israel.

During the show, four acrobatic aircraft, with experienced pilots trained for the performance, did complicated maneuvers just 10 meters above the audience.

Earlier in the day, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin hosted the traditional annual Yom Haatzmaut ceremony to honor 120 outstanding soldiers of the Israeli army.

The soldiers were selected on the recommendation of their commanders to receive the President's Award for Excellence for their service and outstanding contribution to the Israel Defense Forces and the country.

Independence Day is a national day of Israel to mark the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948.

The streets, buildings, facilities and cars were decorated with Israeli flags, and people walked on the streets in the blue and white colors of the Israeli flag.

Israel declared independence on May 14, 1948, but it marks the Independence Day according to the Hebrew calendar.
