China dominates World Rowing Cup in Bulgaria

SOFIA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- China finished at the top of the points table at the World Rowing Cup I, which ended in Bulgaria's city of Plovdiv on Sunday.

In the first international regatta for 2019, China gained 61 points, followed by Poland with 45 and the Netherlands with 44.

In the three-day event, which featured 14 Olympic boat classes and two international boat classes and gathered over 300 athletes from 24 countries and regions, China won four gold, four silver and one bronze medals.

Lu Shiyu and Wang Yuwei captured the China's first title in the women's double sculls. Liu Zhiyu and Zhang Liang brought the second title in men's double sculls. The other two golds were won by Wu Qiang and Pan Dandan in the lightweight women's double sculls, and Chen Yunxia, Zhang Ling, Lyu Yang and Cui Xiaotong in the women's quadruple sculls.

Qin Miaomiao and Guo Linlin in the women's pair won a silver medal, as well as Jiang Yan in the women's single sculls, Huang Wenyi in the lightweight women's single sculls, and Yi Liqin, Xia Keke, Xu Fei, Li Yingying, Huang Kaifeng, Zhong Yanwei, Wang Yuzhou and Miao Tian in the women's eight.

Wang Zifeng, Xu Xingye, Zhang Min and Wang Fei took the bronze in the women's four event.

The World Rowing Cup series was launched in 1997 and consists of a series of three regattas per year. In 2019, the three stages in the series are Plovdiv, Bulgaria (10-12 May), Poznan, Poland (21-23 June) and Rotterdam, the Netherlands (12-14 July).
