7.6-magnitude quake hits area near New Britain Island: CENC

BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- A 7.6-magnitude earthquake jolted an area near New Britain Island at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

Initial data show that the epicenter was monitored at about 4.22 degrees south latitude and 152.56 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
