KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's total population increased by 1.1 percent year-on-year to 32.66 million in the first quarter of 2019, official data showed Wednesday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that 29.31 million of the total population were citizens. The number translated into 89.7 percent of the total population.
Male population outnumbered female with 16.86 million versus 15.8 million.
A total of 116,850 live births were reported in the first quarter, dropped by 0.2 percent as compared to the first quarter last year.
Meanwhile, total deaths for the quarter decreased by 1 percent year-on-year to 42,647.
