Tunisia's unemployment rate recorded 15.3% in 1st quarter of 2019

TUNIS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's unemployment rate reached 15.3% in the first quarter of this year, recording a slight decrease of 0.1 point compared to the first quarter of 2018, the National Institute of statistics (INS) said Wednesday.

The total number of unemployed people decreased from 644,900 in the fourth quarter of last year, to 637,700 in the first quarter of 2019, according to the latest national survey conducted by the INS on population and employment.

Regarding to youth unemployment (aged between 15 and 24), the survey shows an unemployment rate of 34.3%.

According to the INS, the total labor force included 3,520,000 people in the first quarter of 2019 against 3,507,000 during the same period of last year.
