GABORONE, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi on Thursday announced intentions to prop up the country's digital transformation, as part of efforts to drive the country's economy to greater heights in Gaborone, capital of Botswana.

Speaking at the country's supreme business consultation forum, the 46th High Level Consultative Council (HLCC), Masisi said the country is already witnessing substantial improvements in digital transformation and the trend will continue.

"We are going to make it (digital transformation) faster and capacitate it to play catch up, and overtake those ahead of us," said Masisi.

Meanwhile the country's business apex body Business Botswana (BB) has urged government to establish Board of Investment coupled with a Regulatory Impact Assessment mechanism to promote both local and foreign investment.

"The new Board's energy would be best served by focusing on promoting and marketing Botswana, as a destination for investment," said Gobusamang Keebine, BB President.

Keebine said the development will lift the local economy into a high income economy.

"The reforms that we propose in HLCC should be seen as building blocks for a high income Botswana," said Keebine.
