Mainland's ARATS pledges to promote peaceful development of cross-Strait relations

BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) on Friday pledged to make its due contribution to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

The association will firmly implement the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's major decisions and plans regarding Taiwan under the complex and grim situation across the Taiwan Strait, according to a council meeting of ARATS held in Beijing.

ARATS said it would work innovatively to contribute to the peaceful reunification of China and national rejuvenation.

Liu Jieyi, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, delivered a speech at the meeting.

Zhang Zhijun, president of the ARATS, made a work report at the meeting.

More than 150 council members attended the meeting.
