BERLIN, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Germany international Max Kruse will leave Werder Bremen after the season, the Bundesliga side confirmed in an official statement on Friday.
The 31-year-old midfielder won't extend his expiring contract and leave the "Green-Whites" after three years.
"We always have emphasized that we would have liked to continue working with Max. However, he has decided to seek for a new challenge after three years. We respect his wish," Bremen's CEO Frank Baumann told the club's official homepage.
Kruse started his Bundesliga career at Werder Bremen where he spent two spells from 2006 until 2009, and from 2016 until 2019. He returned to Bremen in 2016, after a short intermezzo at Wolfsburg, and provided 32 goals and 27 assists in 84 appearances ever since.
"The decision wasn't easy for me. I always loved to enter the stadium, especially as the captain to lead the team on the pitch. I will definitely miss that. It is now time for me to continue my way. I still cannot tell where it will take me," Kruse said.
Werder Bremen sit currently on the 9th place of the standings. They encounter third placed Leipzig to conclude the season 2018-2019 on Saturday. Enditem
