BERLIN, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Paderborn capitalized on Union Berlin's two-all draw with Bochum to climb into German top flight Bundesliga after the last round in Bundesliga 2 on Sunday.

Another promotion berth was secured by Cologne two weeks ago.

After one season in the second division Cologne lifted the Bundesliga 2 title to return to the first division, for the sixth time in their history.

Paderborn climbed from the third division and back to the top flight despite their lost round loss to Dynamo Dresden 3-1.

"I am glad that it worked out. It was a tough piece of work. If you look at the whole season our promotion is absolutely deserved. We staged a poor performance but that doesn't matter today," Paderborn's head coach Steffen Baumgart said.

Third placed Union failed to benefit from Paderborn's defeat and to grab a direct promotion spot as they were held to a 2-2 draw by ten-men Bochum. Union Berlin will meet Stuttgart in two relegation playoffs on May 23 and 27.
