U.S. dollar little changed ahead of Powell's speech

NEW YORK, May 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. dollar was little changed in late trading on Monday, as investors awaited Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's speech.

Powell is scheduled to speak on Monday evening at Atalanta Fed's financial markets conference entitled "Mapping the Financial Frontier: What does the next decade hold?"

Investors are looking for clues about Fed's next interest rate move and the central bank's thinking on U.S. economy.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.06 percent at 97.9337 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1168 dollars from 1.1159 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.2726 dollars from 1.2725 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to 0.6905 dollar from 0.6866 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 109.97 Japanese yen, lower than 110.10 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 1.0083 Swiss francs from 1.0110 Swiss francs, and it was down to 1.3431 Canadian dollars from 1.3442 Canadian dollars. Enditem
