HAVANA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Raul Castro discussed with visiting Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza bilateral ties and the crisis in the South American country, local media reported on Tuesday.

During the meeting on Monday night, the Venezuelan foreign minister thanked the permanent solidarity of the people and government of Cuba, according to the state daily Granma.

At the talks, the solid bonds that unite Cuba and Venezuela and other topics on the regional and international agenda were highlighted, said the report.

Meanwhile, Diaz-Canel and Castro reiterated their support toward Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Arreaza is on a working visit to Cuba to participate on Tuesday in the political council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), a regional bloc led by Havana and Caracas.

The meeting aims to bring together a common position on Washington's recent measures against Venezuela, as well as the full implementation of the Helms-Burton Act which seeks to dash foreign investment in Cuba.
