ANKARA, May 21 (Xinhua) --Turkish police on Tuesday arrested 16 suspects linked to the extremist group Islamic State (IS) in nationwide operations, local media reported.

At least six Syrian and four Iraqi nationals were detained in the raids launched by security forces in central province of Kayseri, Demiroren News Agency reported.

Separately in the northwestern province of Kocaeli, the police conducted operations in the Izmit, Basiskele and Gebze districts on Tuesday morning, in which four IS suspects were detained.

In the southeastern Sanliurfa province, Turkish security forces arrested two female suspects in an operation. The two suspects, who were attempting to cross into Turkey, were captured in the Akcakale district on the Turkey-Syria border, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkey has been conducting a long-running campaign to fight against IS which targets the civilians with suicide bombings, as well as rocket and gun attacks.
