BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Beijing section of the 2019 Asian Film Week, held between May 16 and 23, offers audiences 83 film screenings, showcasing the diversified culture of Asian countries.

The Beijing event began with the screening of the silent film "Pan Si Dong (The Cave of the Silken Web)" at the China Film Archive. The 1927 production is widely referred to as the earliest domestic monster film China has preserved.

On the showing list are films from various Asian countries, such as the Indian production "Dangal" starring Amir Khan, Japanese animated film "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," the experimental Israeli film "Longing" and Tajikistani short film "Bunker."

Classic Chinese films, including director Kar-Wai Wong's "Chungking Express," "Postman in the Mountains" by Huo Jianqi and "Red Sorghum" by Zhang Yimou, were also screened.

The film exhibition, part of the Asian Film and TV Week, takes place in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi'an simultaneously starting May 16. More than 60 films from over 30 Asian countries were scheduled to be screened.
