HONG KONG, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has lodged solemn representations with the German Consulate General in Hong Kong over the reported granting of asylum by Germany to two Mong Kok rioters who have skipped bail and fled Hong Kong.

The commissioner's office summoned Germany's acting Consul General David Schmidt on Friday for an urgent meeting, expressing strong dissatisfaction over and resolute opposition to Germany's move.

The commissioner's office urged Germany to abide by international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and to earnestly respect the rule of law and judicial independence in Hong Kong.

It also urged Germany to recognize its mistake and reverse the decision, and not to let criminals go unpunished and not interfere in China's internal affairs including Hong Kong affairs.
