NAIROBI, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The UN is exploring ways on how to partner with the private sector in order to propagate green cities around the world, an official said on Sunday

Victor Kisob, deputy executive director of UN-Habitat, said that the private sector has the research, development and innovation to promote the growth of sustainable cities.

"We are always exploring solutions for cities and therefore we are open to partner with any private sector entity that wants to address issues of affordable housing, resilience and green cities," Kisob said on Sunday during the Business Leaders Dialogue ahead of the First Session of the UN-Habitat Assembly.

The first UN-Habitat Assembly which will open on Monday is expected to draw over 3,000 delegates from the 193 member states of the United Nations.

Kisob noted that rapid urbanization means that cities have to develop mechanisms to deliver crucial services to the growing number of urban residents in a sustainable way.

He said that the UN-Habitat is keen to ensure that new innovations on sustainable cities are brought to production and full realization.

Accoding to Kisob, green cities will move the world closer to achieving the Paris Agreement.
