JERUSALEM, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Israel's parliament "Knesset" approved on Monday a preliminary vote of a bill submitted by the Likud party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to dissolve the Knesset, less than two months after the general elections on April 9.
According to an announcement, 65 Knesset members, all from the right-wing parties, voted for dissolving the Knesset, while 43 others opposed.
The bill was submitted by Knesset Member Miki Zohar of the Likud party, who also heads the House Committee of the Knesset, which temporarily replaces the permanent committees during transitional periods between governments.
The bill was submitted after Netanyahu failed to form a coalition, even though the Likud and the other right-wing parties won a majority of 65 seats, out of 120, in the parliament.
Netanyahu's period to form a government is expected to end on Wednesday (May 29), but by Monday evening he has not succeeded in his mission.
The obstacle to the establishment of the new government is the refusal of Yisrael Beiteinu party, headed by former Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman, to compromise on future amendments to draft law.
